Preparing for scholarships - inventory time!

It's about that time when students should begin to search and apply for those outside scholarships (I guess I have been on that rant for a while!!!) In any case, I did receive notification about a new source of scholarships and wanted to pass that on to my readers. Sallie Mae, which is a student loan compamy also administers scholarships through the Sallie Mae Fund. They recently announced that the application for funds in the form of scholarships will be available in early 2009!!! See below for more information:

In recognition of National Scholarship Month, The Sallie Mae Fund(R) is pleased to announce that it has awarded roughly $2 million in scholarships to deserving college students this fall. Through these awards, The Fund, a charitable organization sponsored by Sallie Mae(R), is helping roughly 800 students pursue a higher education at more than 460 institutions this academic year.
The Sallie Mae Fund(R) aims to increase access to higher education for lower-income and minority students by addressing three common barriers—awareness of financial aid, academic performance, and financial need. Since 2001, The Fund has awarded more than $14.3 million in scholarships to over 5,700 deserving students.
By 2015, there will be an additional 5 million college-age individuals in the United States. Approximately 80 percent of this growth is projected to come from minority populations with greater financial need. To help meet these needs, The Sallie Mae Fund(R) provides scholarships through a number of initiatives. Applications, eligibility, and deadline information for the 2009-2010 academic year will be available in early 2009 at www.salliemaefund.org
